Editor’s Note:

Here’s some trivia: Why is February the shortest month, with just 28 days (unless it’s a leap year)?

Answer: To align the Romans’ 10-month calendar with the lunar new year, King Numa Pompilius added two months—January and February. He chose February, the month dedicated to honoring the dead, to have the “unlucky” even number of days.

That got me thinking about other strange superstitions that exist. Peek at this month’s Lagniappe section (if you dare), and you’ll find a list of 14. You didn’t think I would just have 13, did you?
