Kathy Sperlak, Sharpe Newkirk Executive Vice President
Kathy Sperlak, J.D., L.L.M., has been with R&R Newkirk in Chicago since 1987. She earned her B.S. in journalism from Northern Illinois University and her J.D. and L.L.M. (taxation) from The John Marshall Law School. Kathy is a member of the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners (CGP), the CGP Leadership Institute and the Suburban Chicago Planned Giving Council. She is a member of the DuPage County Estate Planning Council and serves on the planned giving advisory council of the Chicago Zoological Society (Brookfield Zoo).
Barlow T. Mann, Sharpe Newkirk Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Barlow T. Mann, J.D., was formerly director of development for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He has authored articles on planned giving for Fund Raising Management, Planned Giving Today and Trusts & Estates magazine, and his commentaries have been featured in The Chronicle of Philanthropy and The NonProfit Times. He has also been a speaker for local and national fundraising groups for more than 30 years, including the AHP, AFP, CGP, ACGA, NCDC, AHA and others.
Aviva Shiff Boedecker, Sharpe Newkirk Senior Consultant
Aviva Shiff Boedecker, J.D., is based in San Francisco, California and has more than 30 years of gift planning experience. She frequently authors planned giving articles and has served for more than a decade each as a director of planned giving at the University of California, Berkeley and the Marin Community Foundation. She has also served on the boards of the CGP and is a past president of both the Northern California Planned Giving Council and the Marin County Estate Planning Council.
Laura Hansen Dean, President & Founder, Laura Hansen Dean & Associates
Laura Hansen Dean, J.D., Attorney at Law (Indiana and Texas) is the founder and president of Laura Hansen Dean & Associates Charitable Gift Planners and Organizational Consultants. A magna cum laude graduate of Indiana University School of Law, she has led gift planning teams at public universities, community foundations and academic centers on philanthropy. Her consulting firm has served a wide variety of charitable organizations. Additionally, she has held leadership positions with local planned giving councils and estate planning councils and has served on the CGP board. She is a frequent speaker and teacher and contributor to publications on philanthropy.
John W. Jensen, Sharpe Newkirk Senior Vice President & Senior Consultant
John W. Jensen, CFP®, is based in Washington, DC and has worked with many nonprofits to improve their planned giving performance. He regularly conducts Planned Giving Program Audit and Assessments, in addition to a wide range of gift planning consulting services. He is a frequent speaker at local and national fundraising conferences and has served on the board of CGP as well as the National Capital Gift Planning Council. Prior to joining Sharpe Group, John served as vice president of development for The Nature Conservancy and the National Wildlife Federation.
